Note, the PRO 700 DX is full-sized, with just the legs extended and the center column down the camera is already at eye level for most people. Raise the center column to its maximum height and your camera is more than 6 feet off the ground!
Slik was also thinking ahead when it designed the head and quick release system. Instead of being squared off and attaching just one way like other quick releases, the Slik PRO 700 DX quick release is circular so the camera can mount quickly facing in any direction you choose.
I have a nearly 27 year old Slik Pro 700 DX . I bought this in 1999 along with a Canon Rebel 2000 35mm camera. This tripod has survived 5 moves. I've owned it in 2 states, and used it to take a couple of contest-winning photos. I've also used it as a solid base for a smart telescope. I still have the original fluid head for it as well. I haven't babied it. Up until a few years ago I didn't even have a carrying case for it. But it is still a very solid, heavy duty piece of equipment.
If there is one thing I could change, I would add a hook to the center column for holding a bag. In the field I have draped a backpack strap around the legs and that worked, but a hook would be simpler. Still, this is an absolute beast of a tripod and in most setups it doesn't need to be weighted down.
It's great to see that Slik is still making this model all these years later, albeit with some minor improvements like the foam covering on the upper leg segments. Just happy to relate that I still have it, it's still going strong, has served me well all these years, and I liked it so much that I sought it out to leave a review. Thank you for making a truly great product that has held up for more than a quarter century. There are very few things I own that I can honestly say are as good today as they were when I bought them, even for items I've had for a much shorter time.
Love my tripod
Love, love, love this tripod. Have been using a cheap amazon basics tripod for the last year and it was giving me all sorts of problems. Got this because of the reveiws and the price. Can't believe how well made it is for the money. Been using it for 3 months now and not a single complaint.
Good value / head is dated
#1 - it is a really well contructed tripod and easy to set up and take down / #2 - It's heavy so it will not move easily if knocked or shooting in the wind / #3 - The head works good but not a big fan of the camera plate which is why I cant give it 5 stars
Love the foam pads
Love everything about this tripod especially the foam pads. I shoot at night and in the cold and the foam pads make it a lot easier to handle the tripod when its cold. Nice feature.
Really tough
Shoot a lot at the beach. Salt water and sand are brutal and find their way into everything inlcuding my tripod legs. The legs are pretty easy to take apart and clean and the office in California has all the parts incase something gets lost or breaks.
Too Heavy / OK head
The tripod is really well made and solid but it is too heavy if you need to walk very far and the pan head that comes with it is a little dated looking. I works fine but could use an update.
Love my 700DX
Really happy I bought this tripod for shooting long exposure landscapes and astro. I get super sharp images even at 4-5 minute long exposures.
Good for long exposures
Got his to shoot the milkyway and long exposures and it gets the job done. Only legit complaint is the weight. I know its not supposed to be a travel tripod but after carrying it around for half a day you get kinda tired.
Heavy
Probably the best tripod for the money but it is kinda heavy. If you plan to hike very far I would not recommend this tripod. Find something lighter.
Great tripod
Have travelled everywhere with this tripod. Yes, its heavy but it supports all my gear including a 400mm f2.8. Great for shooting wildlife and long exposures at the beach. Get one, you'll love it.
